Welcome to the Nelms Lab!

We study how development shapes genetics. As organisms grow, the behavior of cells and tissues influences which genetic variants are passed to the next generation — and which are lost along the way. We use plants as a powerful experimental system, combining functional genomics, high-throughput screening, and microscopy to address questions fundamental to both plant evolution and crop improvement. Learn more about our current projects — spanning mutation spread, haploid gene regulation, and cell fate reprogramming.
